For Kiran, fitness after pregnancy wasn’t about “bouncing back”—it was about rebuilding strength with intention and self-compassion. Starting her InstaPhysique journey five months postpartum, she focused on progress over perfection, embracing a steady and mindful approach to regaining both physical and mental toughness. Now, as a mom to an active toddler, Kiran shares how her fitness journey not only helps her keep up with the demands of motherhood but also inspires self-compassion, presence, and resilience in all areas of life.
What was your ‘why’ for starting at InstaPhysique, and how has that reason evolved as you’ve progressed on your fitness journey?
I started when I was five months postpartum seeking to slowly rebuild my body from the inside out. No quick, “snap/bounce-back,” no disliking my body or ignoring injuries along the way, and no exercise binging that felt more like punishment than the mindful, deliberate improvement I set out to achieve.
I wanted to emerge from my pregnancy stronger and more proud of my mental and physical toughness than ever. Now, my son Khalil is a 13-month-old toddler, and my original “why” continues to serve as my north star for continuing on with my fitness journey here. But as Khalil gets older (and heavier!) I’m also on this journey because it allows me to keep up with him and meet the physical demands of motherhood.
What surprising strengths have you discovered about yourself since joining InstaPhysique?
I can show up to a 5:40am class consistently, even when my baby wakes up several times in the middle of the night! I used to think that sleep deprivation would destroy me! On at least one occasion, Coach Erin gave me permission to just lay there on the Mega after a rough night. But, receiving that permission only made me want to show up harder for myself!
How has your journey at InstaPhysique inspired positive changes in other areas of your life?
I’ve learned to be kind to myself, especially during tough classes and the Instafinisher. I celebrate the moments when I feel stronger than before and remind myself not to be too critical when I fall short of expectations. This practice has made self-compassion second nature, both in and outside the studio. I’ve also become more present—if I start worrying about what’s ahead or what I didn’t do, I lose focus. Staying in the moment, even during tough moves like Coach Brian’s Super Lunge, teaches me to do my best and keep moving forward.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness journey with InstaPhysique? Trust the process and stay in the fight. It doesn’t get easier, but you will get stronger.
Favorite mega move?
Kneeling inner thighs! It’s a reminder of how far I’ve come. Newly postpartum, I couldn’t even open my thighs half an inch without holding onto the red cable for dear life. These days, my inner thighs and pelvic floor are feeling so much stronger. And it gives me a great view of my butt in the side mirror!
